Memorial Sloan, CEVR and PAVE on Navigating the Pricing and Reimbursement Environment

Anna Kaltenboeck, MA is the Senior Health Economist and Program Director for the Center for Health Policy and Outcomes and the Drug Pricing Lab at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She focuses on the development and application of reimbursement methods for prescription drugs that reduce distortionary incentives in the supply chain and encourage pricing of treatments based on their value. Her work centers on developing an unbiased evidence base that characterizes the effect of federal policies on coverage and reimbursement decisions for branded specialty drugs and cell and gene therapies and identifying opportunities for policy changes that encourage affordability and access while maintaining incentives for innovation. The scope of her work spans the US, European Union 5 and emerging economies. Her current research interests include global comparisons of reimbursement policy and supply chain regulation, game theory in innovation decisions and the effect of market concentration on pricing decisions.Ms Kaltenboeck’s research and policy work is informed by her experience as a consultant for pharmaceutical clients. Prior to joining MSKCC, Ms Kaltenboeck spent 10 years working for Analysis Group and IMS Consulting Group, where she conducted health economies and outcomes research and developing pricing and market access strategies for pharmaceutical and diagnostics products.Ms Kaltenboeck has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and other press, including JAMA, Morning Consult, and STAT News. She speaks frequently on the topics of value-based pricing, economics of the supply chain and reimbursement models. Ms Kaltenboeck holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in economics from Tufts University.

After graduating from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy and Gatton College of Business and Economics, Dr Joey Mattingly dove directly into pharmacy practice for The Kroger Company, facilitating the implementation of a new information system to more than 40 pharmacies. After completion of the pharmacy system rollout, he managed four different Kroger Pharmacy locations between 2010 and 2012 before being promoted to serve as District Pharmacy Coordinator in Carbondale, Illinois, overseeing operations for 12 pharmacies.In 2013, Dr Mattingly was hired to lead Indianapolis operations as general manager for a start-up long-term care company called AlixaRx, providing pharmacy services and remote automated dispensing systems to 23 skilled nursing facilities across Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio. He currently serves as an associate professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Health Services Research at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, where he teaches business strategy, comparative effectiveness research, and is a strategic consultant for the University of Maryland Medical Center. In 2016, Dr Mattingly was selected as the graduating class Teacher of the Year and in 2018 was honored with the prestigious Albert B Prescott Pharmacy Leadership Award.In addition to his work as a faculty member, he serves as the Director of Operations for the PATIENTS Program and the Speaker of the House of Delegates and Trustee for the American Pharmacists Association. He recently earned his PhD in Pharmaceutical Health Services Research with a special focus in pharmacoeconomics and methods to incorporate the patient voice in outcomes research.

Dr Dan Ollendorf is Director of Value Measurement and Global Health Initiatives at the Center for the Evaluation of Value and Risk in Health (CEVR) at Tufts University. His research interests include expanding the use of health technology assessment in low- and middle-income economies, as well as refinement of value assessment tools in the US and other high-income settings. Prior to joining CEVR, Dr Ollendorf was Chief Scientific Officer for the Institute for Clinical and Economic Review (ICER) for over 10 years, where he was responsible for the conduct of assessments of the clinical effectiveness and economic value of high impact health care technologies as well as coordination of the broader health technology assessment process. His 30 years of experience also include work in the hospital, informatics, insurance and consulting sectors.Dr Ollendorf holds a PhD in clinical epidemiology from the University of Amsterdam, a Master’s of Public Health from Boston University, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Rochester. Dr Ollendorf currently serves as a non-resident Fellow at the Center for Global Development, is a member of the International Society of Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) HTA Council Working Group and is the Chair of the Health Technology Assessment International (HTAi) Global Policy Forum. From 2015-2019, he served on the Medicare Evidence Development and Coverage Advisory Committee (MEDCAC).
