Hicham Majd, PhD

Hicham holds a PhD in Bioengineering and Biotechnology and an MSc in Microtechnology from EPFL
(CH), as well as a Certificate of Business Administration from Babson College (US) and joined Novartis in
2017 as Device Manager. Currently, Hicham serves as the Associate Director, GDPD Innovation Lead. In
this role, he leads the GDPD Innovation Focus Group and innovation portfolio. Hicham is a member of the
TRD Innovation Council since 2023 leading Science & Technology Cluster. Hicham contributed on many
activities include leading cross-functional teams for multiple combination product projects, establishing
device and packaging clinical readiness processes for new modalities projects: Biologic, Chemistry and
Cell and Gene therapy.
Hicham has a proven track record of creating and implementing innovative solutions for devices and
packaging to improve patient life, with already multiple international patents, scientific publications and
one book chapter. During his career, Hicham leads device development in medical and no medical fields
from idea to commercialization.
Throughout his career, Hicham has held various positions, including Device Manager, R&D Project
Leader, General Manager and Founder of start-up Labssed SA start-up developing a novel surface
treatment for implantable device to improve the biocompatibility and bio-integration. He has also been
involved in academic interactions, supervising Master thesis and being a member of the PhD Thesis Jury.
Hicham has received several awards and multiple grants from the Swiss National Science Foundation
and Venture Kick. He has also been recognized for his contributions to the entrepreneurial field with
prizes such as the IMD start-up competition and Venture 2010 Business Idea and Plan.
