What is the State of Clinical Trial Patient Matching Right Now?

Prior to joining Novartis, Sean Lynch was VP, Clinical Operations at DCT provider, Curebase. Mr Lynch has previously worked as Senior Director of Clinical Project Management at biotechnology research company, TrialSpark. He also served as Senior Director of Global Sales at clinical research organization (CRO), Syntactx. He worked for nearly seven years at healthcare IT and clinical research company Quintiles (now IQVIA) in Clinical Data Management roles.

Dr Chelsea Osterman is a medical oncologist and senior medical director with the Tempus TIME program. She completed her residency in internal medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and fellowships in oncology and health services research at the University of North Carolina. Prior to joining Tempus, Dr Osterman worked as an oncologist in Asheville, NC and in the Real World Evidence division at Flatiron Health. She is currently supporting the TIME trial network where she leads multiple data science and machine learning initiatives aimed at improving access to clinical trials across the United States.

Michaela Bertram is married to her high school sweetheart, Michael. They have 2 beautiful children – Beckham (15) and Zoey (13). Bertram is currently the clinical cancer research manager at the Avera Cancer Institute in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Her nursing career began in January of 2009 when she started as a new graduate on the inpatient oncology unit at Avera. Bertram transitioned to cancer research as the hematology research coordinator in April of 2011 and has been a part of the cancer research department for 14 years, most recently as the clinical manager, for 3 years. Her cancer research team has grown from 8 to almost 40 staff. She couldn’t be more proud of our team and the work they do to bring clinical trial opportunities to the patients we serve.

Benjamin Jackson (he/him) is Vice President of Commercial at Sano Genetics, where he leads sales, marketing, and strategic partnerships to scale patient-centric solutions in precision medicine and clinical trial matching. With a proven track record across commercial operations, customer success, and program governance, Ben ensures Sano delivers transformative results for global biopharma and research organizations. Driven by a passion for aligning product–market fit and fostering meaningful collaboration, Ben helps design scalable recruitment strategies that connect trials with the right patients—faster and more efficiently. Prior to Sano, he served as EVP of Commercial at BC Platforms, where his customer-first mindset guided data‑driven programs in rare disease drug development. Earlier in his career at PatientKeeper (now Commure), Ben led implementation and change-management initiatives that improved operational efficiency and clinical quality across health systems. Ben holds a B.S. in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (with a minor in Philosophy) from Boston University, where he also contributed to marine biology research focused on immune pathways. An Enterprise CRO School alumnus and certified Scrum Master, he blends technical insight with agile leadership to drive innovation and growth. As a founding board member of Elevate Youth and former Big Brothers Big Sisters volunteer, Ben brings empathy and community-rooted leadership to everything he does. At the 2025 panel on Clinical Trial Patient Matching, he’ll share insights on scaling patient-first operations in the evolving landscape of precision trials.
