CSL Behring CEO on Prioritizing Patient-Centric Research and Leading Through the Pandemic

Cindy Geoghegan is a patient advocate, advisor and activist with over 30 years of health policy and communications experience, having held senior staff and board positions with several leading cancer non-profit organizations including Susan G. Komen, Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization and others. She began her advocacy career shortly after her breast cancer diagnosis in 1995. Ms Geoghegan has provided the patient perspective on research teams and projects funded by Stand Up to Cancer, the National Cancer Institute, the American Association for Cancer Research, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute and has served on the steering committee of the Clinical Trials Transformation Initiative (CTTI), the Duke University/FDA joint venture focused on more efficient clinical trials. Ms Geoghegan is currently a member of the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center’s External Advisory Board, and on the Founding Members Council for the Digital Medicine Society, where she also serves on its research committee. Ms Geoghegan has co-authored more than a dozen publications with researchers focused on patient preferences and improving patient outcomes.

Paul Perreault was appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director of CSL Limited in July 2013. Since then, CSL has grown to become the world’s third largest biotechnology company with 27,000+ employees providing lifesaving products to 100+ countries.Paul, who brings more than 30 years of experience in the global healthcare industry, joined CSL in 2004 when CSL Limited acquired Aventis Behring. Prior to his current role, Paul served as CSL Behring’s President and Executive Vice President of Worldwide Commercial Operations and Business Development. He also held several executive positions at Aventis Behring, including, Vice President and General Manager of Plasma Operations and Vice President and General Manager Hospital Products in North America and Puerto Rico.In 2019, Paul was recognized as one of Harvard Business Review’s best-performing chief executives in the world as part of the business publication’s CEO 100 List. The annual ranking measures leaders across industries on financial performance as well as environmental, social, and governance criteria. Paul was also voted the Business Daily 2019 CEO of the Year. Business Daily is published in Australian daily newspapers the Herald Sun and the Daily Telegraph, and syndicated across the country. In 2018, Paul was named one of the Philadelphia Business Journal’s Most Admired CEOs and “Humanitarian Man of the Year” by the Hemophilia Association of New Jersey. Additionally, the influential Australian Financial Review named Paul its 2017 CEO of the Year and, in 2016, Paul was awarded Healthcare CEO of the Year from the Philadelphia Alliance for Capital and Technologies.Paul serves on the board of directors of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), is a member of the Wall Street Journal’s CEO Council and an inaugural member of the Penn State Provost’s Global Advisory Council. He also served on the board of Bunker Labs Philadelphia, a network of military veteran entrepreneurs.Prior to CSL, Paul spent more than 15 years in key senior roles at Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories, now a part of Pfizer.Paul holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Central Florida and completed advanced business management training at the Kellogg and Wharton schools of business.
