Dr Jim MacKrell is Associate VP and Head Lilly Ventures – East Coast (USA), at Eli Lilly and Company. He is responsible for supporting the strategy and implementation of Lilly’s early phase external innovation and partnering initiatives. He provides scientific leadership at the intersection of Lilly’s venture capital strategy, working with key innovation sources, including venture capital firms, biotech’s, and universities to identify investment and partnership opportunities for Lilly.
Since joining Lilly in 2013, Dr MacKrell has served roles leading research programs in early discovery, R&D strategy, external innovation, and as a leader of Lilly’s early trailblazer teams, championing innovative ways to bring Lilly science to patients with speed. He has led multiple programs through Lilly’s portfolio, delivering several NMEs through clinical testing in the metabolic disease space. He is passionate about identifying emerging scientific assets, technologies, and portfolio opportunities across the early biotechnology landscape.
Dr MacKrell holds a degree in biology and biomedical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and a doctorate in Molecule Physiology from the University of Michigan Medical School.
