Benchmarking Clinical Operations for Digital Maturity

Timothy Joy is the Head, Clinical Operations Strategic Solutions at Pfizer. Mr Joy is responsible for leading a global team tasked to identify and develop creative, scalable, technical and process related solutions for unmet global clinical trial needs.Mr Joy has been at Pfizer since 2001, when he joined Development Informatics. In Development Informatics he was responsible for implementation and support of Pfizer Electronic Data Capture systems. Since joining Global Product Development in 2006 Mr Joy has held multiple positions with increasing responsibility. He represented Pfizer on an Industry council to redesign and implement enhanced versions of Electronic Data Capture, implement clinical and operational data warehouse, and most recently developing Pfizer’s Decentralized Clinical Trial strategy.Mr Joy has been involved in numerous innovative projects and initiatives to redesign Investigator Site Support, implementation and usage of novel Patient Technologies, and creation of Pfizer’s eSource strategy.

Hassan Kadhim is the Business Engagement Leader for Clinical Operations and Development for Vertex Pharmaceuticals. Prior to this role, he was the Global Head of Clinical Trial Business Capabilities & Clinical Innovation at BMS, where his team governed the business technology capabilities strategy within Global Development Operations, and drove changes and innovation towards better outcomes for clinical trial stakeholders. Mr Kadhim is passionate about transforming the clinical research arena in the pharma industry through the use of technologies and patient-centric clinical trials, and is a firm believer of the need for clinical innovation grounded in strong business practices for sustainability, change management and adherence to compliance and regulatory commitments. Mr Kadhim regularly appears and speaks at industry events around improving the clinical trial experience with digital tools, and wrote “The Remote Clinical Trials Model” whitepaper in 2016, to formalize a new patient-centric clinical trial research model leading to what we know today as Decentralized Clinical Trials. Mr Kadhim actively collaborates across industry collaborations such as Transcelerate and others to advance relevant and high-value industry challenges.He has degrees in bioinformatics and pharmaceutical sciences, both from the University of Montreal in Canada.

Craig Lipset leads at the forefront of innovation in clinical research and medicine development. Mr Lipset is an advisor to technology and biopharmaceutical companies, leading universities, and the venture community, bringing vision and driving action at the intersection of research, digital solutions, and patient engagement. He was the Head of Clinical Innovation and Venture Partner at Pfizer, on the founding Operations Committee for TransCelerate Biopharma, and on the founding management teams for two successful startup ventures (Perceptive Informatics and Adnexus Therapeutics). During that time, Mr Lipset designed and launched multiple industry firsts — from the first fully remote/virtual clinical trial for a new medicine to the first returning of results and data to research participants. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Decentralized Trials & Research Alliance (Co-Chair), Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research and the MedStar Health Research Institute, and, as well as on the Editorial Board for Therapeutic Innovation & Regulatory Science. He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Health Informatics at Rutgers University, and an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Rochester Center for Health + Technology.Mr Lipset has received the red jacket ‘hall of fame’ recognition among the PharmaVOICE most inspiring people in the life sciences. He has been recognized among Pharmaceutical Executive’s Emerging Leaders, CenterWatch Top 20 Innovators in Clinical Trials, the Medicine Maker Power List and the AlleyWatch Who’s Who in eHealth. He studied Music at Brandeis University and earned a Master of Public Health from Columbia.

Brandon Maggio is a Director of Digital, Analytics & Performance, within Global Clinical Operations at GSK. Mr Maggio holds degrees in Biotechnology and Biochemical Pharmacology from the University at Buffalo and has dedicated 20 years to the pharmaceutical industry. He leads a diverse group of global innovators responsible for developing Digital Health strategies, implementing technology and innovative trial designs, optimizing processes to standardize new ways of working, and utilizing data to improve performance.

Aman Thukral is the head of Digital Operations and Clinical Systems at AbbVie. He has over thirteen years of experience in clinical development, technology planning & business-technology alignment. He is responsible for eCOA operations, wearables, and sensors,  piloting new technology initiatives and digital partner for patient engagement in his current role. Before this position, he had worked at Deloitte, Cognizant & GlaxoSmithKline at various levels.
