Addressing the Lack of Structured, Clean Patient Data

Paul Bleicher, MD, PhD, is a consultant and advisor to healthcare and life science businesses, internationally. Dr Bleicher works with private equity investments in healthcare and life science IT/data as an executive partner at Ardan Equity and with pre-seed startup companies through his work as a founding apillar at Petri and PIllar.Prior to these roles, Dr Bleicher was the chief executive officer of OptumLabs, an open, collaborative research and innovation center founded by Optum and Mayo Clinic to accelerate improvements in patient care and value through clinical, policy and product innovation driven by new insights from big data.Before OptumLabs, Dr Bleicher was chief medical officer and a member of the Board of Directors of Humedica, a next-generation clinical informatics company that was acquired by Optum in January 2013. Before Humedica, Dr Bleicher was a founder and original CEO of Phase Forward, a company which pioneered the development of web-based electronic data capture for clinical trials and was acquired by Oracle Corporation in 2010. Dr Bleicher had previously led clinical development at a biotechnology company (Alpha-Beta Technology), and began his career in industry at PAREXEL, where he assisted pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies with the clinical development of novel therapies.Dr Bleicher earned his BS from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an MD/PhD from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Dr Bleicher trained in internal medicine at the Beth Israel Hospital, in dermatology at Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital, and was a post-doctoral fellow at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in molecular biology before beginning his career as an assistant professor at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Dr Bleicher has held various leadership positions and has received numerous awards for entrepreneurship and leadership in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries.

Amy Cramer draws on her experience as a cardiac critical care nurse, clinical research coordinator, certified healthcare quality professional and clinical research informaticist. Ms Cramer has worked in a community hospital, an independent academic medical center, and world class academic medical institution. She is currently Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine Clinical Innovation Focus Area Leader: Capitalizing on Data Assets. She has been the Director of eSource Implementation for Pfizer, Inc. Ms Cramer’s focus throughout her career has been determining improvements that provide better patient centric care, whether that be developing a visualization for a complex hypoglycemia protocol, developing a transplant quality program or optimizing the use of the electronic health record for clinical research. Ms Cramer’s current focus is on clinical trials solutions, which includes eSource; specifically the secondary use of EHR data for clinical research. Ms Cramer is Co-Chair of HL7 Clinical Interoperability Council, AMIA’s Scientific Panel Committee, a TransCelerate member and reviewer for many professional journals. Ms Cramer received a Master in Management of Clinical Informatics from Duke University School of Medicine and plans to continue her studies in Clinical Research Informatics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

Lekan Wang is Head of Machine Learning Services at Parexel. As a software and data executive with proven track record designing, building, and maintaining operational software products across the healthcare ecosystem, Mr Wang has architected and built data solutions used at numerous pharmaceutical and biotech firms, as well as provider systems, the NIH, NHS, FDA, and the CDC. He is an expert in deploying real-world integrated software platforms in challenging, complex environments that enable expert users while building in appropriate innovative technologies. As a previously founding member and lead at Palantir Technologies, Mr Wang initiated and led biopharma and US federal healthcare projects and helped seed London and Munich offices to serve EU pharma clients.

Xiaoying Wu, MD, MS, is Vice President, Data Science Platforms and Privacy at Janssen and has more than 20 years of diverse experiences in medical sciences, data science, medical informatics, and information technology. Ms Wu’s recent accomplishments include establishing Janssen R&D Data Science ecosystem, Med.ai, that integrates diverse data from preclinical, clinical and real world; delivering innovative data science solutions to accelerate drug research and development at scale. Previously, Ms Wu led the Data Sciences Pharma Commercial Technology team, established an enterprise Real World Data and Analytical platform, rHEALTH, enabled JnJ as strategic leader demonstrating Real World value for Janssen products. In addition, she led the team delivering innovative solutions supporting GCSO and Janssen Commercial organization, including early disease identification, predictive HCP targeting, augment payer/provider strategy, as well as patient data anonymization and re-identification risk assessment. Ms Wu played a crucial role in molecular profiling, advanced analytics/visualization supporting TAs, including identification of prediction markers for patient stratification, developing and implementing computational framework for identify PD markers and genomic signatures for understanding molecular basis of disease and drug MOA as well as establishing a strategic technological foundation for Real World Data providing transparency and governance, advanced analytics capabilities and services to enable innovation, efficiencies, and rapid data-driven decision-making. Ms Yu is the author of over 30 peer-reviewed scientific publications. She received her MD from XiangYa School of Medicine, MS degrees in Computer Sciences and Biostatistics from Drexel University and University of Pennsylvania respectively.
